Burton Park Playgrounds Now Open! |
|
Mayor Brad Lewis officially opened the new playgrounds on October 23, 2008. He was joined by members of the City Council, Parks and Recreation Commission, Burton Park Playground Committee, Advocates for Accessible Recreation, Parks and Recreation Foundation of San Carlos, and many of the individuals, families and businesses who helped make the playground possible. This was truly a community celebration of a two year design, fundraising and construction process. $500,000 in private funding was raised for this $850,000 project. The City of San Carlos provided $350,000 in funding to realize the new Burton Park accessible playground design. Stop by to experience the new playgrounds at Burton Park, featuring sand and water play, swings in both the school age and tot lots, and a water spray play area between the two playgrounds. The water spray feature will be open from 1-4pm in October. The school age area has new trees, turf, a perimeter fence and shade structures. New seating areas and a water fountain were also installed. Burton Park now contains the first fully inclusive playgrounds in San Mateo County! Donations are still being accepted to help with maintenance and replacements as needed. |
